FULL PROGRAMME

Keynotes

Clair Mowbray, the Chief Executive of the National College for High Speed Rail outlines the need for modern training and the role of the College for developing UK Infrastructure.

Rob Jackson from Bond Bryan Digital, will discuss how the industry has begun to move forward with their collaborative journey but yet still too often the models produced are not fully focussed on the ‘I’ in BIM. This keynote shares Bond Bryan Digital’s approach and thinking about the goal of Better Information Management (BIM) built around a fully open approach.

Lee Barnett and Richard Osbond from Curtins explains the digital role of the structural engineer and describes their journey to BIM Level 2 Verification by BSI.

Update

thinkBIM Chair, Duncan Reed and Niraj Mistry from the BIM Alliance Special Projects Group will be giving an update on the latest in BIM and Digital with a particular focus on upskilling.

Round Table Discussions (confirmed so far, more to be added!)

Andrew Tewksbury, Arcadis: How the rail industry is looking to develop commercial benefits from the use of digital information.

Rob Jackson, Bond Bryan Digital: The benefits of open data workflows and processes.

Lee Barnett, Curtins: The process and advantages of being BIM Level 2 certified.

The “Final Session”

Known for offering something a little different from your average conference closer, for our September conference we have arranged for a presentation and demo of the new Trimble Connect for Hololens. This technology utilises mixed reality for project coordination by providing precise alignment of holographic data on the construction site or in the factory, enabling workers to review models overlaid in the context of the physical environment.

+ Tours of the multi-award winning facility (most recently crowned Building Project of the Year at the Constructing Excellence Yorkshire and Humber Awards)

Booking – Click to book

£50 per delegate *. This price includes a networking lunch, presentations, round table discussions and a tour of the facility.

2018: A BIM Odyssey – thinkBIM Summer Conference – Open Data from Land, Sea and Space (Event)

Share This:

thinkBIM, in conjunction with our event sponsors Group BC, are pleased to bring you our summer conference on the theme of data management in the context of the work of the Environment Agency.

Details

Wednesday 13th June 2018, 12:00 registration and networking, 13:00 to 17:00 Conference

Squire Patton Boggs, 6 Wellington Place, Leeds, LS1 4AP

Speakers

Karen Alford, BIM/GSL Programme Executive will be returning to give delegates an insight into the Environment Agency’s digital journey and their next step.

As an asset owner the EA has spent time documenting and structuring standards, data and document requirements.  This helped shaped their Employer’s Information Requirements and their overall approach to digitising their business processes. Karen will also be outlining what’s next on their digital journey- the sharing of asset information through API capabilities in their infrastructure maintenance programme.

Trevor Mossop, Technical Services Manager, JT Mackley & Co. Ltd, will be presenting on their businesses experience in Connecting Data and looking at how BIM on coastal and flood defence projects can be linked to Geographical Information Systems to provide easily accessible asset information.

Trevor discusses the challenges Mackley faced on the Environment Agency flood protection project at Shoreham, West Sussex, including his involvement in the development of a new BC module looking at how to make better, mobile use of geospatial data and how to engage users in the field with minimal BIM knowledge or training.

Sakthy Selvakumaran, Engineering Director and CBS Consultants, an ICE Schools Ambassador and listed as a Forbes 2016 Top 30 under 30 in Europe in Engineering and Manufacturing.

Sakthy is a Chartered Engineer who has worked across different roles, continents and cultures. These roles include designing new structures on mega-projects like Crossrail, assessment to upgrade UK infrastructure assets, and working on sites to resolve critical construction issues.

Sakthy will be presenting on her University of Cambridge PhD research on “Can satellites really detect millimetre-scale movements from space?”

+ BIM FOCUSSED INDUSTRY UPDATE

+ ROUND TABLE DISCUSSIONS

+ NETWORKING LUNCH

+ THE INFAMOUS FINAL SESSION

Our final session this time will take a lively look at the NBS BIM Report 2018. The report, which was published on 10th May 2018, is the seventh report compiled and published by the NBS and tries to tell a story of where the UK Construction industry believes it is as in terms of BIM adoption. But do these statistics tell the real picture? We will challenge delegates over some of the headline figures, leading the discussion as to what these figures might really mean and where the industry might really be at in terms of BIM Adoption. So, in the footsteps of Benjamin Disraeli once said (or possibly Mark Twain!!) we will finish off our summer conference with lies, damned lies and statistics.

£80 per delegate or FREE for Yorkshire & Humber Constructing Excellence Club members

12:00 registration and networking lunch, 13:00 to 17:30 conference
Squire Patton Boggs, Wellington Place, Leeds

thinkBIM is back and pleased to announce our first conference for 2018 which ties in with Leeds Digital Week. We are one of the only events representing construction and it is our chance to show off how the industry is harnessing digital innovation to create buildings fit for the future.

For this event, we will be bringing you two keynote addresses from teams that have delivered private sector projects digitally in the retail sector.

Keynotes

Adam Ward, from BIM Technologies will be talking about how they worked on the Victoria Gate shopping centre in Leeds. The scheme, delivered by Sir Robert McAlpine utilised federated models to resolve the complex geometry of the envelope of this structure in steel, precast concrete and glass.

John Adams, a Director at BIM Strategy will be talking about the Feethams Development project in Darlington. This mixed use scheme combining a shopping centre, cinema and hotel used digital technologies to successfully deliver a complex, challenging scheme with some major design changes along the way!

Roundtables

Both Adam Ward and John Adams will be running round tables alongside the following;

Anthony Harte -Anthony and the team at James & Ward have delivered over 1 million square feet of new build and remodelled space in BIM since 2009. With particular expertise and over 17 years’ experience in retail architecture, Anthony combines his role as co-director at James & Ward with a secondment in Asda’s Construction Design Standards team where he sits on the BIM Strategy Board supporting the wider understanding internally.

Mark Stodgell – Mark is recognised as one of the UK’s leading BIM and Information Management Consultants, specialising in ‘Digital Estates’ programmes for clients and information security. He advises on BIM and Information Management strategy and project implementations for Sainsbury’s, Argos, University of Manchester, BDP, Galliford Try and Sir Robert McAlpine and his high profile projects including Wimbledon No1 Court, Leeds University and  M+ Museum in Hong Kong.

For a long time the basic idea of 4D BIM has been well understood by the construction industry but other than running an animation of the construction sequence what can you really do when you add time to a model?

Three very different views will be presented on the broader benefits of digital planning and logistics processes, a tool for helping the rail industry to validate possessions programmes and how the demolition industry is embracing BIM.

Speakers

Professor Terrence Fernando, ThinkLab, University of Salford

Lee Mullin, Autodesk

Kiran Rai, The Coleman Group
